SALOHY RURAL SCHOOL NOW OPENED!
The Salohy School project came to a joyous conclusion on 3 October 2017 with the official opening ceremony. Over 1000 people attended the occasion including local Kings and the local education Minister. TASC Madagascar and their partners ADSUM were represented by TASC Chairman Stuart Martin and Trustee Pat O’Brien, both of whom have been much involved with the funding, design and construction of the site. The local mayor, who has fluent English, thanked ADSUM and TASC for their dedication to the cause of education and explained that the locality had been waiting over 100 years for a proper school. Many songs were written and sung to celebrate the occasion and Pere Emeric was given a live chicken! The teachers’ houses were also blessed and the first official game of football was played. The photos in the attached report tell the story of collaboration across the globe to bring this wonderful project to completion in a very remote area of Madagascar where, to date, none of the children have completed a full primary education. A well was installed by Feedback Madagascar as part of the development and on top of the new classrooms the project includes playground equipment, a Gazebo, basketball court, soccer pitch, swings, 4 new teachers houses, a 3 cubicle latrine, sanitation facilities and rain water collection.
